What to expect
Progressive, precise, safe
Iyengar Yoga is progressive – you learn to stretch and to increase your stamina in basic postures before you progress to the complicated poses. It is precise, with an emphasis on correct, safe practice.
You will start with standing poses to develop better posture and to gain freedom of movement and stamina. Seated poses, forward bends and twists are introduced gradually, as is shoulder stand. Backbends and head stand come later. Classes end with guided relaxation to calm and clear the mind and spirit.
If you are stiff, unfit, heavy or elderly, you may be taught to use supports or 'props'.
- bring greater peace of mind
- improve posture
- relieve tension and promote sleep
- increase stamina and flexibility
- reduce aches and pains
- improve digestion

Your teacher
Sallie Sullivan
I am an Iyengar Yoga practitioner and teacher living and teaching in Lewes. I hold a senior teaching certificate awarded by Iyengar Yoga (UK).
I teach daytime and evening classes for different levels, from total beginner to experienced practitioners and teachers. As a senior teacher I am qualified and insured to teach pregnancy and therapy yoga.
I began to 'do' yoga in Lewes in 1973, and luckily took classes with Jenny Deadman who inspired me to train in the Iyengar method. I passed the introductory certificate in 1986 and have since added the junior and senior intermediate certificates to my yoga CV.
I have made more than a dozen visits to the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, south India. I completed a three year yoga therapy training in the UK with Stephanie Quirk from RIMYI.
- Senior teaching certificate, Iyengar Yoga (UK)
- Registered Yoga Therapist with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)
- Serves on the IY(UK) committee of moderators
- Studied Sanskrit and yoga philosophy for a year in London with Professor Krishna S Arjunwadkar

How booking would work
The finished site would carry a live class calendar with the current term's dates, so you can see which weeks each class runs and ask for a place in the one you want. This preview shows the weekly pattern only — no calendar is shown here because a made-up one would be worse than none.
Term dates confirmed on booking. Contact Sallie in advance to check if there is space.
